EfficientELO – Energy and resource efficient electro-galvanizing of steel strip

Situation:

  • Large amounts of zinc top dross occur as low-grade residues in the hot-dip galvanizing lines.
  • High ohmic power losses in electro-galvanizing lines are caused by a relative poor electrolyte conductivity.

Solution:

  • Extensive investigations on the usage of top dross as alternative raw material for electro-galvanizing lines.
  • Optimization of electrolyte conductivity.
  • Development of treatment methods for electrolytes from hot-dip galvanizing top dross.

Operational benefit:

  • Decrease of energy and raw material consumption in electro-galvanizing lines.
  • Knowledge base on the influence of different electrolyte compositions on the coating and processing properties.
